Merlin: The Tears of Uther Pendragon, Screencap Recap Part I
For our season 3 opener of Merlin, "The Tears of Uther Pendragon," things start out very dark indeed. King Arthur (Bradley James) and his knights, and servant Merlin (Colin Morgan), observe the slaughter of so many of Camelot's men.

Back at the castle, trusted physician Gaius (Richard Wilson) tries to talk some sense into King Uther (Anthony Head). Uther has refused to give up on Morgana, and continues to send his son and everyone else out on dangerous missions to try and find her.
Arthur and his men get attacked. No, Merlin isn't dancing, he's just gotten a sword knocked out of his hand.
He's got to turn on the magic to get himself, and Arthur, out of danger. I love what they do with his eyes.
King Arthur in battle...
After the dust settles, there's a figure in the forest approaching. Merlin and Arthur are both shocked by who they find...
It's not her best look, but the Lady Morgana (Katie McGrath) is alive in the forest.
A beautiful shot on the way in to the castle...
Gwen (Angel Coulby) watches with concern over the now sleeping Morgana.
Uther is beside himself with joy when Gaius tells him Morgana is fine. He misses Gaius' hint that she's only physically fine.
But not everyone has reason to be glad of Morgana's return. Merlin wonders what his fate will be, when Morgana tells Uther that Merlin poisoned her.
Called to her chambers, Merlin witnesses the reunion between Arthur and Morgana. Check out that stare...
Arthur is ever the sweet big brother type, assuring Morgana she's well and safe.
After Arthur leaves, Morgana confronts Merlin about the poisoning. Merlin is anguished and scared, and tells her he truly hadn't wanted to.
Merlin is surprised, and happy, when Morgana forgives him. She tells him she's learned to fear magic and that she's a changed person.
Later on, Arthur is suspicious when he discovers Merlin in a good mood, even while scrubbing floors.
Merlin taunts Arthur by accusing him of having no idea how to use a bucket and cloth to wash the floor. Arthur takes off his shirt, because that's what he does in every episode. And we thank him for it.
Arthur also takes the bait.
Or maybe not...
It's the haughty tip of the chin. You're in for it now, Merlin.
Love that look of "oh no you didn't" on Merlin's face...
Arthur walks away, giving us the lovely back view...
And Merlin's day suddenly isn't so bright after all.
Merlin is always such a beautiful show. The sets, the costumes, the lovely actors--and the cinematography is just gorgeous. A lot of care is taken to frame the shots in interesting ways, and to give us a real feel for the world these characters live in.
Morgana and Uther have a tearful and joyful reunion.
Morgana promises to love and respect Uther the way that he deserves, and to never cause him trouble again.
Somehow, we don't think she means it.
